How to use Virtual DJ with Keyboard (3 Steps)
Here you can see how to use Virtual DJ with the keyboard of your computer, whether you use a Windows or Mac operating system. The ideal is to have a controller, but if you don’t have one, a good option to learn how to mix and internalize the concepts is to do it with the keyboard. At the end of the article you can also learn how to map it.

How to use Virtual DJ with keyboard (3 Steps)
I only advise you to use Virtual DJ with keyboard, while you get a controller, because if you really want to learn this art, it is best to work with a real simulation of a DJ equipment.
If you do not have that equipment, it is better to work with the keyboard than to work only with the mouse, because although it is far from the real experience, it is closer to the use of a controller by moving your hands more and pressing different buttons.
To learn how to work with the keyboard I recommend 3 steps:
- Learn which keys are important.
- Practice.
- Make some changes and configure it to your preferences (mapping).
1. Virtual DJ controls on keyboard: Learn the keys and their function
It is important that you learn which keys perform which function in order to be able to use Virtual DJ with ease. You will need some practice but you will eventually internalize the functions.

2. DJ Practice
Practice the basics: play/pause/stop, changing volumes, cue points, moving the jogs to make corrections…
Start with the most basic mixing techniques and investigate well all the possibilities of shortcuts in the preferences.
And if you dare, on YouTube there are many people who upload videos, for example scratching with the keyboard (although this is more advanced).
3. How to Set Keyboard Shortcuts in Virtual DJ (mapping)
Once you have practiced a little, you will be able to see if there are shortcuts or combinations that you find complicated or uncomfortable and perhaps you would like to customize the functions that you use the most.
With Virtual DJ it is possible to assign the functions you want to perform to the keys of your computer:
You can do this easily in the Preferences section of Virtual DJ.
To assign a function to a key, click “Preferences” at the top of the screen. Next, select “Mapping” from the side menu and click “Keyboard” at the top of the screen.
From here, you will see a list of all the Virtual DJ functions that you can map to a key. Click on the function you want to map and press the key you want to use for that function.
