How to Record on Virtual DJ? (2 Steps)

In this article we are going to see how to record on Virtual DJ. This software allows us to record the audio of our sets even in the free version, here you will see the steps to follow to make the recording:

1. Prepare the Recording

As a first step we will choose the format, the location and the name of the file.

To do this, we just need to go to Virtual DJ -> Preferences -> Record.

About the Format of the Files

I recommend recording in .wav if you want the highest quality, and in .mp3 if you want to reduce the file size, for example to share it or transfer it to your devices.

Once this is ready let’s go to the next step.

By the way, I recommend you always have the latest version of Virtual DJ, as they are updating many features. If you do not have it you can access here to the Virtual DJ download (free and last version).

2. Record on Virtual DJ

To record from the interface, we can only do it from 2 layouts: Essentials and Pro (both layouts are available in the free version).

Selecting the layout on VDJ (Step 2)

Recording from the Essentials Layout

Simply click on the Master tab, and look for the REC button.

Recording Audio on Virtual DJ (Step 2) from Essentials Layout

Once you click on the REC button, the recording will start and the file will be as you have set it up in step 1.

Recording from the Pro Layout

In the same way as in the previous layout, click on the Master tab and look for the REC button.

Recording Audio from the Pro layout (Step 2). VDJ.

More information and tips about recording on Virtual DJ

  • There is no time limit for recording.
  • Keep in mind the space you have available on the hard drive or memory unit you are recording to, especially if you are recording in a heavier format such as .wav.
  • You can configure even more technical parameters of the recording if you go to Preferences -> Options -> Record: you will find more options about the quality, whether it will be in 16-bit or 24-bit, etc.
  • I recommend that if what you are going to record is a DJ set and you are not an expert, have it well prepared, to avoid mistakes.
  • Another good idea if you are learning is to record yourself periodically (for example monthly), without the intention of sharing your recording, just to have a record of your progress month by month, and appreciate your improvements little by little.
