Using Virtual DJ Automix (How to use it in 3 Steps)
Here you can learn how to use Virtual DJ’s Automix function with its own A.I., and the different settings for it. So you can choose the method you like best for your parties.
On this website we teach you how to DJ, but once in a while taking a break and having an AI do it for you is fine too, and you can enjoy people. Or maybe you have no knowledge or interest in DJing and just want to prepare a playlist for a party. Whatever your case here’s how to do it.
What is Automix in Virtual DJ?
Virtual DJ’s Automix is a feature that allows you to automatically mix a playlist without having to manually intervene. Instead of loading each song and manually adjusting the tempo and timing, you can create a playlist and activate Automix to have Virtual DJ automatically mix the songs in the playlist.
With Automix, Virtual DJ will automatically adjust the tempo and timing of the songs so that they mix smoothly. You can also apply effects and transitions between songs to make the transition between songs even smoother. In addition, you can also configure different Automix options, such as the duration of the transition and the way songs are selected from the playlist.
How to Automix with Virtual DJ
Let’s take a look at the 3 steps:
- Open the Automix section.
- Create a playlist.
- Choose the Automix settings in Virtual DJ.
… And then… start the party!
1. Open the Automix Section
Once you have opened Virtual DJ:
1. Click on the “Sideview” tab in the lower right corner.
A new section will open.
2. Click the Automix tab.
2. Create a Playlist
Drag and drop all the songs you want from the browser into the Automix section, to create your playlist.
3. VDJ Automix Settings (Choose your preferred option)
Virtual DJ offers you 3 main Automix options:
- Smart
- Fade (4 types of fade, and you can select the time of transition)
- None
- Smart Transition: This feature uses advanced algorithms to analyze the incoming and outgoing tracks and determine the best type of transition to use. It can choose between crossfade, cut, and other types of transitions based on the musical characteristics of the tracks, such as the tempo and key.
- Fade: This transition gradually fades out the first track while simultaneously fading in the second track.
- None: When the track finish start the next without any transition.
How to set up the Automix function
In order to set up the Automix, click on the button that you can see in the following image:
Then you can select the type of mix that you prefer.
If you select one of the 4 fade types, a new option line (Automix Length) will appear, where you can also set the transition time.
If you have tracks with extended versions, a good option is “Fade (remove intro/outro)” with a transition time of 16 seconds. But I recommend you experiment with it.
Start the Party!
Just click on “Start Automix” and the party will begin.
You will see that the mixing will be performed on the same deck, both tracks will be placed on the same graph.
I hope you enjoy the party!
In conclusion it is not like a real DJ, but it does it quite well. The transitions are not abrupt, although they tend to be fast and mainly consist of synchronizing and make a crossfade, but it is an interesting solution.
